Cascade Bicycle Club current and new member only registration period is Jan. 1 - 31. The Group Health Seattle to Portland Bicycle Classic is a fully supported 204 mile ride you can do in either one or two days.

Group Health STP 2008, July 12-13, a northwest cycling classic. 204-mile ride in one or two days. ONE OF THE LARGEST, BEST CYCLING EVENTS IN THE NATION! If you have never ridden the Group Health STP - this is the year to do it! If you haven't ridden in a while, it's time to get back in the saddle for the 29th edition. Join cyclists from around the country on a 204-mile trek from Seattle to Portland. Some will ride in one day, some in two. Some will go as fast as they can and some at their own pace. There's plenty of food & lots of photo opportunities. Think you can't do it? Think again! Though STP is home to lots of 1-dayers (speedy cyclists who tackle the 204-mile course in one day), the majority of riders go at their own pace and are not racers. Ages range from under 12 to over 80! Check out our web site at http://www.cascade.org for training rides on our daily rides calendar or find a training partner on our Buddy Board and get ready for what Bicycling Magazine lists as one of the best cycling events in the nation! The Group Health STP is not a race but some riders do “race” to Portland but this event is set-up as a ride. The roads we use are open to vehicle traffic. All riders must obey all the traffic laws and use good bicycle etiquette like not wearing head phones (illegal in Washington), ride no more than two a breast, pass only on the left, use your voice or bell when passing, and stay alert just to name a few. Registration Information. Adult registration online is $85 (plus service fee). Children form the ages of 6 - 12 are $40 and kids age 1 -5 are free. Everyone participating in the event must complete a registration form. Tandems must have two forms and pay two entry fees. Registration cards will be mailed starting on or before June 15. Bring this to packet pick-up. If you register after July 5 your card will not be mailed but will be available for you at packet pick-up just bring picture ID. For your packet to be available for the Portland packet pick up Saturday, June 28 (you must register must be received by June 25). If you miss this date you can register in person at the Portland packet pick. Location is the Downtown Portland REI store at 1405 NW Johnson St. from 10 am - 6 pm For Seattle packet pickup you must register by July 6. The Seattle packet pickup is at the downtown Seattle REI store July 9 - 11 from 11 am to 7 pm. Note: If you miss these deadlines you can register in person at the packet pickup locations. Ride is limited to the first 9,500 riders who register. Rider Packet Mailing - You can choose to have your packet mailed to you for a $15 fee. Packets will start going out the week of June 23. This service can be ordered until June 30. See registration form for details. A late fee of $15 will be added to all registrations after June 12. Pre-Ride Guide (Available after March 1st) Covers everything you need to know to get ready for the event! Includes mid-point lodging form, start and finish line info, packet pick-up schedule and much more! We will be happy to mail you one for $5. Luggage Stops You may ride STP in one day or two (regardless of how you register) and you can determine the destination of your luggage on the morning of the ride. Simply put your luggage on the appropriate truck the morning of the ride and then head south on the route. If you want to ride it in one day simply show up the morning of the ride and put your luggage on a Portland-bound truck and start riding. One Day Riders Saturday July 12 - be the first to Portland! Mid Point Housing for two-day riders Riders are responsible for arranging their own mid-point housing. Space is limited so book early! Housing information can be found in the STP Pre-Ride Guide (described above). Transportation Back to Seattle for You and/or Your Bike. Return transportation tickets from Portland to Seattle may be purchased in advance via the registration form for $55. SPACE IS LIMITED. book early. Please indicate whether you will return Saturday (one day rider) Sunday (from finish line) or Monday (from the official hotel). Sorry, no refund on lost or unused bus tickets. Transportation includes chartered bus back to the start line. You can send your Bike Only for $28 (no need to specify which day). Bicycles are packed in moving blankets and shipped back by Bekins Moving Company. Maximum liability of Bekins and Cascade Bicycle Club is 60 cents per pound for the actual weight of any lost or damaged article. Flying Wheels Summer Century The official STP training ride on Saturday June 14. This ride is a multi-route ride that begins and ends at Marymoor Park in Redmond. Bring the entire family to enjoy the loops of 25, 45, 65 and 100 miles. It has been said that the 50 - 65 mile loops are great preparation ride for two-day STP riders and the 100-mile loop is great preparation for the one-day riders. Annually, over 30,000 children around the Puget Sound area are reached via our helmet giveaway program and our nationally recognized Sprocket Hero and Bicycle Rodeo programs. Helping to keep children safe by providing ANSI and Snell certified helmets and teaching them safe riding techniques is a #1 priority of the Club. STP Goes Climate Neutral in 2008 To help mitigate STP’s impact on global warming, Clif Bar has purchased enough renewable wind energy credits to offset the CO2 emissions created by the ride – including baggage and food transportation, support vehicles, return bus travel, and all operations on-site. This will significantly reduce our impact on global warming. Riders will also be able to offset emissions created by their own travel to and from the ride by purchasing a $2 Cool Tag™ when they register for the event or at the Clif Bar booth at the STP Finish Line Festival.
