Brief Description

Enjoy beautiful mountain and ocean views while visiting some of the local landscapes EDC has worked to protect. All levels of cyclists are welcome. The 10-mile ride leaves from EDC's downtown office, taking riders along the beach front to Douglas Family Preserve and back. The 39-mile ride follows a bike path to Goleta Beach, stopping at Haskells Beach, and returns to EDC. Stops offer info on each site's history and importance. The ride is followed by a fiesta in the EDC courtyard.

About the Environmental Defense Center

The EDC protects and enhances the local environment through education, advocacy, and legal action. EDC is a §501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, and provides legal counsel to other nonprofit organizations in SB, SLO, and Ventura Counties.

Since 1977 EDC has empowered community-based organizations to advance environmental protection. Program areas include protecting coast and ocean resources, open spaces and wildlife, and human and environmental health.

Registration Includes

Easy to follow course directions, rest stops with water, entry to post-race lunch, and one tasty lunch and two drink tickets.

Teams

Teams are highly encouraged. Friends, colleagues, co-workers or family to form teams (3 riders minimum). Prizes for best dressed riders, best dressed bikes and biggest teams. Connect, exercise and have fun. Team riders enjoy $10 discount on registration.

Check-in and Departure Times

The 39-mile ride begins at 8:00 am and 10-mile ride begins at 10 am. Check in and registration will begin at 7:00 am. Please allow 30 minutes. If you plan to participate in a guided ride, please be ready to leave at the published departure times. We highly encourage teams to ride together. Otherwise, riders are free to depart upon check in and go at their own desired pace. Students should be prepared to show student ID upon check in. Riders under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Support

SAG support with radio/phone communication will be available on routes, However, please make sure your bike is in good working condition prior to the ride, and be prepared to handle your own minor repairs

Post-Ride Lunch

The lunch begins at 12:00 pm and includes food, beverages, a raffle, and live music. Riders will be given an identification wristband at check-in. Wristband will be required to attend lunch. Please be prepared to show ID if over 21 and would like to drink alcohol. Each attendee will receive 1 lunch ticket and 2 drink tickets. Vegetarian options will be available. Lunch tickets available for sale to friends, colleagues and family

Other Info.

All riders must wear a helmet. Riders under 14 years of age must ride with an adult. This is not a race. Bicyclists must obey all California Vehicle Code laws, including all stop signs and signals. Riders should carry water, patch kit, spare tube, pump, cell phone, identification and critical medical information. No pets. Weather can vary during the month of October so please dress accordingly.
