Brief Description

Hostelling International USA, San Diego Council is proud to announce the 37th Annual Midnight Madness Fun Bicycle Ride. We ride at midnight! The cycling route is a primarily flat 18 mile loop, along some of San Diego’s most beautiful waterfront and historic areas. Don't forget to dress up in your wildest costume and light up your bike with a light display to win fabulous prizes!!! Ride will be limited to the first 2,000 participants

PLEASE NOTE

The San Diego Police department will have a strong presence throughout the event, so please follow all traffic and safety laws to avoid being arrested or getting an expensive traffic citation. Remember that operating a bicycle while intoxicated is ILLEGAL and is considered to be Driving Under the Influence!!

Required

You must have a bib number, helmet and bike light to participate.

Note

Tandem riders must purchase one entry for each rider. Ride will be limited to the first 2000 participants!

This year marks the 37th anniversary of the Midnight Madness Fun Bicycle Ride. Starting in 1973 as a tribute to Paul Revere’s Midnight Ride, this landmark San Diego event has grown from a few hundred local riders to over 1,600 participants. Midnight Madness has truly become a renowned family friendly bicycle ride in Southern California. Midnight Madness offers one of the most scenic routes for bicyclists anywhere. Cycling around Harbor Island and Shelter Island offers riders unique and spectacular views of downtown San Diego. And of course the ride wouldn't be the same without the crazy contests!! The Light the Bike and Alaska Airlines Costume Contest brings out the creative and fun side of bicyclists. All riders are welcome to participate in either contest for a chance to win great prizes. Ride Cost: $30 - Adult (pre-registration) $15 - Child 12 and under (pre-registration) $35 - Night of even Hostelling International USA, San Diego Council is a 501(c)3 nonprofit. Proceeds from the ride help fund our youth education and outreach programs which help us fulfill our mission to help all, especially the young, gain a greater understanding of the world and its people through hostelling.


Event Schedule

Midnight Madness will be held regardless of weather conditions. Sorry, no refunds.

8 p.m. Night of registration and t-shirt pickup will begin. There will also be vendor booths, music, games, and food from 8pm until the ride begins at Midnight.

10:30 p.m. (approx.) Light the Bike Contest, and Alaska Airlines Costume Contest take place. Be sure to arrive on time for a fun and wacky time and an opportunity to win great prizes!

Midnight The ride starts promptly at midnight from the south parking lot of the San Diego County Administration Building. Riders will be let out in waves of a few hundred at a time. You must have a bib number, helmet and bike light to participate.
