Description
2012 marks the 10th annual SpokerRide! Its hard to believe that it has been ten years since the inaugural ride in 2003. We plan on something special this year, so be sure to register early! From the inaugural ride of 66 riders to last years 200 the SpokerRide has grown each year, with more money each year being raised to help fight cancer and bring cancer awareness to our community.
More than one out of every three Ameri-cans will eventually have cancer - thats one in every two men and one in every three women. The odds of cancer affecting you or a loved one are not that improbable. The SpokerRide is a charity event, all proceeds are donated to the Lance Armstrong Foundation (www.laf.org) and the Ameri-can Cancer Society (www.cancer.org).
The Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF) provides support to guide people through the cancer experience, brings them together to fight cancer - and work for a world in which our fight is no longer necessary.
The American Cancer Society (ACS) is the nationwide, community-based, volunteer health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by prevent-ing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from can-cer, through research, education, advocacy, and service.
The ride starts and ends in Sackets Harbor, NY. The courses are generally flat, with some hills. There are two courses, a 30 mile (beginner/intermediate) course, and a 50 mile (advanced) course. A novice course is available for those riders that want to participate but not race.
