Additional Information

Miracle Limbs-Courage in Motion, a Florida non-profit corporation is the vision of Bob Ayres, an above the knee amputee. The organization provides support to his fellow amputees so that they may more easily navigate the physical, psychological and financial hurdles that accompany the experience of losing a limb. Miracle Limbs answers a need not fully being addressed by the non-profit community.

Currently there are more American soldiers suffering amputations from the Mid-East conflicts than any time since the Civil War. In addition, the number of amputees from accidents, congenital birth defects and diabetes is ever increasing. There are 253 new amputees every day in the USA, and every 30 seconds globally, from diabetes alone. Every week, over 3000 people lose a limb in the USA.

Our mission is to gather and provide the most up-to-date information to be able to refer amputees and their families to effective, credible, well-respected people and organizations that can provide for their needs, and to create a fund to assist amputees in receiving a limb, rehab, and counseling.

Our goal for the ride this year is to raise $75,000 to continue the work of the foundation and the amputees we are assisting. Our focal recipient this year will be Jamarion Styles from West Palm Beach. Jamarion is a cheerful and gregarious little 6 year old who lost both arms at the age of 8 months. His insurance would only pay for hooks on each arm and Jamarion chose not to wear them, learning to write with his feet instead. Our goal is to provide Jamarion with two myoelectric arms. Once Miracle Limbs can purchase the advanced components, Pediatric Prosthetics from Houston has agreed to rebuild his arms with these computer components at no charge, as his growth demands.

We are honored to have TREK Bicycles co-organize the ride once again, and thrilled to announce that ARTHREX, a worldwide leader in sports medicine product development and educational services for orthopaedic surgeons, will be this year's Corporate Sponsor for the event.
