The Stanislaus County Bicycle Club (SCBC) invites you to the Inaugural The Fruit Yard Century, Saturday, September 8, 2012 beginning and ending at The Fruit Yard.
The Stanislaus County Bicycle offers
three different routes traversing the Great Central Valley farmlands and grasslands to the Central Sierra Nevada foothills. There is a route for every skill level.
109 Mile Route
This route heads south towards Snelling. Along the way you'll encounter rolling hills, vineyards, orchards and dairies. After the first rest stop, you begin to enter the Central Sierra Nevada Foothills. You'll ride through grasslands, Blue Oak and Digger Pine woodlands, and chaparrals of Manzanita and Chamise. You will travel along the scenic Merced Falls Road to the old town of Merced Falls. After a lunch stop in Don Pedro, you will ride across the Don Pedro Dam and the Tuolumne River and enjoy a fast down-hill descent to La Grange. You will continue on back to Snelling for another rest stop before continuing on to your final rest stop which will energize you for your final leg back to The Fruit Yard. Total elevation gain approximately 3600 feet.
100 Km Route
Riders will travel south towards Snelling through orchards and vineyards. After your first rest stop you will head north to Turlock Lake enjoying seasonal winds and smooth rolling hills. A final rest stop will energize your return trip to The Fruit Yard. Total elevation gain approximately 1800 feet.
30 mi Route
Riders will enjoy an easy ride through lovely orchards and vineyards. There will be a rest stop half way through the ride to energize you for your return trip to The Fruit Yard.
You will receive a descriptive route map at the start/finish, and the roads will be well-marked. We will also have the radio-dispatched SAG support provided by the Modesto Amateur Radio Association.
All of the routes will have rest stops well supplied with food, fruit, snacks, drinks, and of course, our ever-popular homemade cookies. The 109 mile ride will be treated to a full lunch stop midway through the day. All riders will enjoy a post-ride BBQ chicken dinner provided by The Fruit Yard. Vegetarian fare is also available.
