Crossing the Finish Line: For the Sixth Straight Year, Endurance Athletes from Coast to Coast Will Champion Their Friend, Jon “Blazeman” Blais, Who Lost His Life to ALS, and Wage International War on the Disease Seeking volunteers to organize a Cycle for ALS event in communities across the country in the month of February. For the sixth straight year The Blazeman Foundation for ALS is calling for a all endurance athletes, cyclists, and volunteers of all athletic abilities to hop on bicycles on a day of their choosing, in the month of February at YMCA’s, gyms and communities across the country for the sixth annual "Cycle for ALS.” www.cycleforals.com . Proceeds will benefit The Balzeman Foundation for ALS (www.WaronALS.com). Planning to have the biggest event ever, the organizers are looking for volunteers to set up spin-a-thons in communities nationwide throughtout the month of February. This will be the sixth annual event designed to raise awareness and funding on behalf of Ironman Jon “Blazeman” Blais’s self declared "War on ALS". Blazeman lost his battle with ALS in 2007 at age 35. The event was launched in February 2006 by "Triathletes Who Care", and continues today thanks to dedicated volunteers working on behalf of The Blazeman Foundation for ALS. The 2012 event is an opportunity for triathlon clubs, multi-sport coaches, and individual athletes to kick-start the 2011 season together with a group cycle or spin marathon when most of the North American continent is still hibernating from the cold. A teacher, Blais decided after his diagnosis to dedicate his then short life to educate others about ALS, and created his signature stamp against the disease, when he rolled across the finish line of the 2005 Kona Ironman. He was determined to prove that nothing, not even ALS, would stop him. Inspired by Blazeman’s ineffable spirit and passion, volunteers are determined to make the 2012 event bigger and better than ever, and they are asking for your help. Prizes include a $500 gift certificate from S&W Sports in Concord for the highest fundraiser and t-shirts for the first ten registrants.
