Additional Information
Due to the popularity and the safety of last year's routing, we will keep the same basic course. The primary difference this that the rally will start and end at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church (ICCC). Once again we’re offering a 4th course. No extra charge.
The 28th Annual Denton Breakfast Kiwanis Club Turkey Roll Bicycle Rally will still traverse the same great terrain! The same friendly Kiwanians and sponsored youth volunteers, and the best marked courses anywhere.
The 25-mile course (Green color route) will leave ICCC heading east along Windsor and Sherman Dr. arriving at the southwester edge of beautiful Lake Ray Roberts and then return to ICCC. There are 2 rest stops on this course (although you’ll have the opportunity to stop 3 times), both with port-a-potties.
The 35-mile course (Blue color route) will also leave ICCC and follow the route of the 25 mile course past the 2nd rest stop. Here, you’ll turn east and cross the Lake Ray Roberts Dam (Locals call it “Ray Bob”). After the dam, turn south on 377 through Aubrey and its back to ICCS. You’ll pass a total of 4 rest stops, all with port-a-potties and friendly Kiwanians and sponsored Youth Club members.
The 47-mile course (Orange color route) will follow the 25 mile course to “Wish Bone Pass.” And remember, you must get past Wish Bone Pass by 11:00 am to continue. After Wish Bone Pass, you’ll continue north sharing much of the long course into Cooke County. Near Lone Oak Road, you’ll get something to drink and eat at one of 6 rest stops you’ll pass and head back the way you came. Again, all rest stops will feature port-a-potties.
Now for the 63-miler (Red color route)! The 100 K’er! The big one! The course will cross Lake Ray Roberts 4 times and go as far north as the City of Valley View. For those of you who are Turkey Roll veterans you’ll be looking for the Terrell and Nancy King rest stop. This year it will be in the northeast corner of the course. Just before the last lake crossing. Look for something great to eat as always with Terrell and Nancy. Then it’s on to Valley View. Here, you’ll stop again, fill your water bottle, and head back to Denton. On this course you’ll pass so many rest stops, you’ll lose count. But remember-they all have one or more port-a-potties.
When you get back to the ICCC, talk about your ride with friends over free Texas-Smoker hot dogs.
The Denton Breakfast Kiwanis Club thanks you for your participation in the Turkey Roll again this year. Proceeds from the Turkey roll help us sponsor 7 Sponsored Youth Clubs, as well as providing back-to-school supplies to over 1,000 kids under our association with The Apple Tree Project.
Also new this year, we’re having a Spaghetti Supper from 5-7pm Friday night at ICCC. Come early and “carbo-load” for the big ride the next day. The cost of Spaghetti Supper is $8.00 for adults and $5.00 for kids under 12. Payment for the spaghetti Supper may be included in your Turkey Roll registration fee. See inset for more details.
All rides will leave the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church (ICCC) at 9:00am November 20, 2010. The physical address of ICCC is 2255 N. Bonnie Brae, 76201. It’s located at the intersection of N. Bonnie Brae and Windsor Dr.
Helmets are required and the rally goes on rain or shine. No refunds.
Safety of our riders is of utmost importance. The Denton Amateur Radio Operators will be stationed at multiple locations throughout the ride and have immediate access to police and hospital dispatch centers.
For the 28th Turkey Roll Bicycle Rally we’ll have short-sleeved T-shirts for the first 500 people that signed up. The logo (see above) created by our local artist, Joe Holland, Jr., has already received rave reviews by early registrants.
