Brief Description

THE PATUXENT RIVER RURAL LEGACY RIDE takes cyclists on a 64 mile (100 Kilometer) tour of Prince George's County's Rural Tier, from Jug Bay in the north to Eagle Harbor in the south. The terrain is rolling, with some fast flats and fun hills. Optional shortcuts provide shorter routes of 13, 26, 35 or 49 miles.

Registration is from 7:00 to 9:00 am at Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary Visitors Center. The course closes at 3:00 pm.

Online Registration Fee is $15 for riders 18 and over (on-site registration is $20). Children 17 and under ride free, but must be accompanied by a responsible adult, and must have the entry form release signed by a parent or guardian. Your registration fee covers

  • Food and drink at four locations
  • Marked route, map and cue sheet
  • Sag service
  • After-ride picnic

Food and drink are provided at four locations: first at Jug Bay Natural Area of the Patuxent River Park, with a panoramic view of the Patuxent. The second Rest Stop is at a beach-park where Magruder’s Ferry once crossed the Patuxent. Eagle Harbor hosts the third Rest Stop, in a shady yard overlooking the Patuxent. More food awaits at the ride’s end at Merkle in the picnic area. This Wildlife Sanctuary harbors geese who decline to fly north, bluebirds and a variety of other birds including the peregrine falcon.
