Additional Information

This year we are moving the start/finish location for easier parking and less hassle..

All routes start at Green Hope High School on Carpenter Upchurch Rd in Cary and head out to Jordan Lake.

The Tour offers distances of 32, 50, and 67 miles. The longer routes include the infamous climb up "col d' Lystra", but finish with 20 gentle miles. The challenging 67-mile route heads out to Maple View Farm Dairy Store in Orange County over mostly lightly-traveled roads with plenty of climbing.

NEW King of the Mountain contest!

This year we are featuring chip timing of the climb up infamous col d'Lystra. All riders on the 50- and 67-mile routes will be chip timed using state-of-the-art disposable tag timing by Precision Race. Regardless of when you start the climb, the fastest elapsed times up the Lystra climb will win. Who will be the King and Queen of the Mountain?

The fully supported ride includes very well-marked routes, cue sheets, SAG support, and rest stops. These are no ordinary rest stops. On the 50- and 67-mile routes cyclists will enjoy free ice cream from Maple View Farm Dairy Store in Orange County. Rest stops are also stocked with fruit, snacks, water, salty snacks, and sports drink. At the finish, all participants will enjoy free Goodberry's frozen custard.

NEW: Free post-ride BBQ sandwiches provided by Backyard Bistro.

Quotes past Cup 'n Cone cyclists:

"The ride rocked. Good route, great signs, great volunteers. And great ice cream :-)." -- Jim P.

"The refreshments were perfect. Lystra was a challenge. I was digging down deep on that hill but now I know I can do it even though i was questioning my sanity. The course was well marked and very scenic which I really enjoyed. All and all, a very nice training ride. Great job!" -- Mike S.

"Like a fine wine, your Cup 'N Cone ride gets better with each passing year! The addition of the [bike] mechanics proved to be the difference between needing a SAG vehicle or keeping my friend and I on the road after equipment issues surfaced. These guys were first rate and, I'm happy to say, made it possible for us to continue the ride. The new route was a welcome change. Many thanks to you and your team of fabulous volunteers that make this MS ride possible. Thank you for all your efforts!" -- Mia P.

"Despite having to climb Lystra hill(s), my husband and I had a great time on Saturday at the Cup 'n Cone ;). What a great ride: well organized, great food, and a great cause! The race was very well organized. I appreciated the clear road markers and the use of both painted cones on the street and signage on the road. The food was tasty and plentiful. Thanks to all the friendly volunteers who staffed the aid stations! We plan to ride again next year. Please keep Lystra in the route -- I need the big climb to burn off all the goodies I consumed! Thanks for a great ride!" -- Heidi S.

"The volunteer support was outstanding. The sag vehicles were very visible. I would like to have seen a few law enforcement vehicles: a few sheriff's deputies and state highway patrol cars here and there along the way is always nice. The route was marked better than any ride I've done. The cue sheets were perfect. The cue sheet handlebar holder give-aways were great. The mechanical support was excellent: they quickly fixed a squeak in my drive train, and lubed my chain, too. Check-in was painless. This is a great ride. " -- Maurice F.

"I have done several organized group rides and the Cup 'n Cone gets high marks in all areas. I especially appreciated the very visible ride support vehicles and the guys at the North Chatham aid station making sure it was safe to enter and exit the station. The additional water stop on the return was inspired as well. I liked that you started early so we could enjoy the cooler temps. And all these compliments are before I get to talk about the ice cream...which was awesome!!! Never has ice cream tasted as good as that chocolate Goodberry's did after the ride!
My only suggestion is getting the word out through more clubs or something. The only way I found out about it was through a random email from a fellow cyclist who had registerd herself. I'm thankful she did, because I would have missed a superb ride! Thanks and I'll see you next year! ." -- Lisa L.
