Registration is only open to members of the NRVBA until February 1st.

General registration will be open to the public on February 1st.

Mountains of Misery Information

The 2012 Mountains of Misery Ride (fifteenth year anniversary!) will take place on Sunday, May 27th. The ride features both a challenging Century and a quad searing Double Metric Century (200 kilometers/ 125 miles).

The Challenge Century (100+ miles) has nearly 10,000 feet of climbing, the Double Metric Century over 13,000 feet. Don't worry, both routes still end with the climb up to beautiful Mountain Lake, a five-kilometer category 1 climb with an average grade of 11.9%.

Entry Fees

  • Entry fees = $75 until May 15th.
  • Entry fees after May 15th = $105

    • Registration and Pasta Information

  • Mountains of Misery is limited to 600 riders.
  • Registration will close when it reaches 600 riders.
  • If there are still openings on Saturday, you may register at registration and packet pick-up.
  • There is NO Day Of Ride Entry.
  • Registration and packet pickup for the 2012 Mountains of Misery will be held at the Inn at Virginia Tech. The pre-ride pasta dinner will also be located at the Inn at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg.

    Saturday Schedule of Events (5/26/2012)

  • 3:00-8:00 PM: MOM packet pickup/ registration at the Inn at VT.
  • 5:00pm-7:00pm: 2011 Pasta Dinner
  • 7:00pm Free MOM information session to follow pasta dinner at the Inn at Virginia Tech. Pasta dinner held at the Inn at VT in Blacksburg.

    Directions to start of Mountains of Misery

    Directions to Newport Staging Area: From Blacksburg drive 7-8 miles on US 460 West, turn right on US 42 exit to Newport (past large double yellow caution signs), drive .8 miles to Newport Rec Center, parking on right.
    Additional parking available a quarter mile further on US 42 at Newport ballfield and picnic area on the right. Parking is limited. Please arrive early and carpool when possible!
