Brief Description:
The White Clay Bicycle Club (WCBC) was established in 1973 and currently consists of approximately 400 cyclists. We have a rich history of: reaching out to the community to promote safe recreational bicycling activities; offering cyclists multiple opportunities to engage in, develop and grow in the sport of cycling; and advocating the rights of bicyclists on a local, state and national level. We come in all shapes, sizes and abilities with one very important factor in common - a love of cycling! We are daily riders and commuters, weekend and occasional riders, and even non-riders. We exist to promote cycling in the Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania tri-state area. What keeps us all going is our enthusiasm for health, camaraderie, the love of the outdoors and a desire to learn and share knowledge about our sport.
About The Club:
We ride year-round with peak season being April through October. Scheduled rides are offered on weekends, weekdays and evenings during peak season, and are posted on our website and in our monthly Tailwind publication. Rides range from 10 to 100 miles in distance and vary in terrain and speed. Scheduled rides have a Ride Leader that assures no one is left behind. New riders are always welcome and every attempt is made to accommodate all riding levels.
Other Activities:
In addition to our scheduled rides, the club also hosts 4 fully supported, organized rides throughout the year: the Icicle Metric Century in March; the Delaware Doublecross Metric Century in July; the Shorefire Century in August; and the Savage Century in October. Our annual banquet is held in February, and our annual Volunteer Appreciation Brunch is held in October.
