Want to get them away from their screens and out meeting new people, having new experiences and facing new challenges? The 3rd summer of the Cumberland Leadership Academy, themed “Lead NOW. Lead for Life!” is a great option. Through a fun and engaging environment filled with reality-TV type challenges, skill building activities, recreational time, self-reflection, awesome field trips and guest speakers who represent leadership in the community, students will: • Be infused with a vision of who they are and what they can accomplish • Learn how and why to grow as a leader • Recognize their own leadership potential • Build and improve leadership skills • Be inspired to take action within the community Teens don’t need to be outgoing, charismatic, straight “A” students or a current leader to participate. The ones who think the least of themselves are often the ones who find the greatest leadership potential within! All they need is an open mind and a willingness to participate. *Acceptance is based on a number of factors. We are looking to have a diverse make-up of student interests, talents, perspectives, and grade levels, as well as, equal representation from the partnering schools. We will be accepting up to 60 students.

About This Organizer

The Office of Children, Youth, and Learning (OCYL)  ia a

municipal department established by town ordinance in February 2007.  It is the first of its kind and has served as a model for community based learning and civic engagement for other communities.  Our mission is to help foster a comprehensive learning environment for children in the first two decades of their lives while promoting youth civic engagement.  The OCYL’s goal is for every Cumberland child to become a skilled learner with a creative mind who achieves to his or her fullest potential.  The way we influence student potential is by providing high quality programming during the out-of-school hours.
