A Community Discover Making Project @ The Exploratory The Community Artist Project are projects designed by local artists who function as both mentor, educator and collaborator. They invite community members of all ages to participate in a group project that results in a showcase where everyone who worked on the project gets to reap the rewards of their hard work. The Boat: Coquina Originally designed in 1889 by legendary designer and boat builder Nathanael Herreshoff. This 17’row/sailboat will be constructed in the original and traditional lapstrake construction. Planking will be Western Red Cedar with White Oak frames and trim of both. The masts and spars will be Douglas Fir. Master Boat builder and educator Aaron Turner hosts 10 students per session, leading them through the process of building the Coquina. Have you ever wanted to build a boat? Open to any and all veterans, Wednesdays from 9-5 at The Exploratory co-hosted by Rudys Workshop. Come work on the building of a 17' wooden sailboat. No experience necessary. Free of charge. Nothing better than "Messing about in Boats". All tools and materials provided. Class will culminate in the launching and sailing of the finished boat for all attendees.
