Description

The Brownwood Bike Rally is a fun annual event celebrating cycling, fitness and health, for kids and adults. It includes street bike races and a bike safety rodeo for kids, cyclocross-track races for adults, a health fair, a food court and a festival area featuring a moon walk, crafts, and other family-friendly activities. Racers vie for cash, bikes and other great prizes., and an on-site raffle offers more chances for all to win more great stuff. All proceeds benefit the East Atlanta Kids Club, a nonprofit after-school tutoring and mentoring program for promising youth.


Street Race Course--Kids Races & Adult Fun Race: From Brownwood Park parking lot, the course runs left onto Brownwood Ave, left on Pendleton Ave, left on Gresham Ave, left on Portland and left back to Brownwood Ave. Pendleton is a 2-3% incline. Some speed bumps. No restrictions on types of bikes, tires or wheels (Road, Mountain, Commuter, Track, Tandem, Unicycle, Recumbent!) All racers must wear approved helmets. All bikes will be checked for good operating condition.


Cross Track Race Format: (Group A) Open to Men and Women (meeting USA Cycling Road Category & Cyclocross Categories 1-5 and MTB Categories Pro / Semi Pro/ Expert/ Sport). (Group B) Open to Men and Women beginners and race novices wanting to try some cross style racing! Payouts & prizes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place.


Cross Track Rules: Mountain Bikes, CycloCross, Road Bikes can compete. If you choose Road Tires - use CAUTION. (You can race in both the A & B races if you are capable of doing so for only an additional $10. You do NOT need a USA Cycling [USCF or NORBA] license to race any of the events that day.


Cross Track Course Info: The race is a blend of Road Crit, CycloCross and Short Track MTB. (Half the course on road and the other half on dirt and grass trails of Brownwood Park). Racers will head south on Brownwood Ave, left on Pendleton and right over the curb into the South Loop in Brownwood Park. Racers will do a loop in the hard semi-packed dirt trails in the south portion of the park, and come back out onto Pendleton, then left on Gresham Ave, left on Portland Ave, left over the curb for another loop into the grassy north end of the park, back out onto Portland Ave, then left on Brownwood Ave, to the start /finish line. There are no dismounts.


Parking is available in the lots behind Graveyard Tavern (1245 Glenwood Avenue) and also next to Martha Brown UMC (1206 Metropolitan Avenue). You may park on neighborhood streets near Brownwood Park, but please do not park on the race course, which includes the streets on the north end of Brownwood Park (Brownwood Avenue, Portland Avenue, Gresham Avenue, Pendleton Avenue).


Registration: On Site Registration is available up to 15 minutes prior to race start time. RAIN OR SHINE. We will delay in cases of thunder/lightning or heavy rain.
