This registration for Laurel Dell Elementary students only. Does your child like to explore the natural world, tinker and build, and use art and technology to communicate and illustrate ideas? WonderLab may be the perfect summer opportunity! WonderLab is a two-week program -- for rising fourth grade students -- in partnership with Laurel Dell School in San Rafael, offering hands-on, inquiry-based projects and workshops in design thinking, science and engineering. Students will grow perspective and partnership in a diverse, collaborative classroom through group project work and exploring individual passions. Program Details Two-week program, running from June 22 through July 2, 2015 (students must be committed to the full session) Hours: 9:00am – 3:00pm each day Program cost is $800 for the session; financial assistance is available includes all meals and one-night trip Marin bus transportation and extended care are available 10 MCDS/10 Laurel Dell rising fourth grade students; 1:4 staff/student ratio This summer’s curriculum will focus on energy, with themes of circuitry and systems. Each day will include structured individual and small group time and sharing a meal, as well as loads of flexibility to tinker and play. We will take field trips to places defined by students’ personal Passion Projects, and invite visiting experts who will share their knowledge and enthusiasm around energy possibilities. Set in an art studio on the MCDS campus, the program will introduce the skills of creativity that lead from imagination to innovation. Students will share their personal stories, learn to work as a team, articulate their own vision, learn the science of systems, and tackle a design challenge. Through play and asking questions, they will navigate the road from their natural curiosity to knowledge, with empathy for the world around them.
