About This Activity

Why You Should Attend This 1-Day Workshop
Everyone agrees that reducing waste in a factory is a good thing.  Recognizing bottlenecks and poorly designed work cells are typically first on the LEAN manufacturing journey, but not far behind is organizing the physical workplace in order to eliminate impediments to LEAN success.  “5S” is the continuous improvement methodology for this reorganization of the physical workplace.

5S is a five-step methodology for creating a safe, clean, organized and self-disciplined factory.  Management partners with the workforce to understand the importance of “everything in its place and a place for everything.”  5S is a management directive that encourages employee involvement in building a LEAN production environment through five important principles:

Identify the tools, fixtures, machines, work aids, etc. that are really necessary to the inventory conversion process.

Set in Order

Reorganize the workplace to eliminate unnecessary activities, such as material handling, transport, etc.

Clean the workplace in order to improve the dignity of the workplace and make it easier to accomplish work.

Establish standards and expectation about the physical workplace.

Implement cultural change that refuses the workplace to get messy, disorganized and unsafe.

Implementing 5S is the first LEAN initiative a factory should implement.  Without this, your improvements will not be as successful because too many physical impediments will slow down your implementation activities… and nothing obvious will be different for the work area employees.  When your factory is physically reorganized, a clear signal will be sent to all operators and supervisors that new expectations will follow.

This valuable 1-day Manufacturing Executive Institute "LEAN Tools Series" Workshop” “How to Implement 5S in Your Factory” has been specifically designed to provide a clear understanding of 5S and to provide practical step by step directions towards implementation.  During this 1-day workshop, you will learn:
