What's Included

Introduction to Caving see the underworld by becoming a cave explorer also known as a Spelunker! If you haven’t been caving yet or are still a beginner this is the place to start. Are you interested in learning caving as a hobby? Cave exploring is becoming increasingly popular in all areas of the world.

The most commonly asked question is probably "What do you find down there?" The answers are as varied as the caves themselves: mud; beautiful rock formations and rubble; water and dust; vast rooms and tight crawlways; awesome rivers and puddles; strange and fragile animals; deep pits and waterfalls; ice and warm water.

In this course we will cover basic caving technique, equipment, basic safety and cave conservation. The best way to learn effective and safe caving is to go with one of our experienced cavers. They have logged hundreds of miles of underground passages and are still just as excited every time they enter a cave.

Introduction to Caving was designed as a tool to educate and promote caving in our local area. Most people don't know that there are over 8,600 known caves in Tennessee alone! We will be exploring a local cave either in Putnam or White County.

We will supply your caving helmet and headlamp. The inside cave temperature is 50°F-55°F. You will get dirty and wet from the waist down. Wear old polypropylene, nylon or polyester clothing in layers that can be shed or added, a pair of gloves, old shoes or boots and some old knee pads if you got them. Bring a water bottle and some snacks.
