What's Included

Instructor: Casey McCarty Get an easy introduction to vector editing with the free and opensource program Inkscape. We'll transform a photo (or web image) of your choice into a vectorized silhouette that we'll cut out of matboard on the laser cutter. This process will cover the vast majority of skills you need to cut objects on the laser-- from profile silhouettes, jewelry, fabric appliques, parts, to anything else you can imagine in leather, fabric, matboard, wood, and acrylic. We'll cover these basics in Inkscape (which are transferable to other vector editing programs): the difference between vectors and other image types, creating a vector, Bezier curves, editing nodes, importing & exporting svg files, and preparing a vector for the laser. Bring a flash drive if you have one, your laptop and a mouse (editing your vector will be very difficult with the laptop touchpad), and Inkscape downloaded. Download the latest version of Inkscape (free) here: http://inkscape.org/en/download/ General computer literacy is expected but no experience with vectors or this software is needed. If you have any questions, please email info@columbusideafoundry.com.
