The perfect time of the year and a beautiful and assessable location with challenging terrain. This is exactly how the Pine Mountain Challenge Century has been described.Conveniently located just north of Columbus in west central Georgia, Pine Mountain and the beautiful country side between Columbus, Shiloh, Pine Mountain, offers the perfect terrain for this enjoyable, but challenging century ride. In its Seventh year, the Pine Mountain Challenge 2013 will draw not only the cyclists, but an army of volunteers to manage this wonderful event. This year the ride will Start at Bikes and Beyond (across from Legacy Chevrolet) 3600 Manchester EXPY, Columbus, GA. The routes will include a 30 mile, 65 mile and 100 mile route. We are looking at the possibility of a small family ride that will begin at 9:30 am. Cyclists are sometimes surprised to find terrain this varied in middle Georgia. The climb from Pine Mountain Valley, GA to the top of the summit of Pine Mountain, home of the Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park, is a Cat.5. Located near the town of Warm Springs, this park is deeply rooted in the historical era of the great depression and President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Seeking a place for treatment after he was stricken with polio in 1921, Roosevelt traveled to nearby Warm Springs and built his Little White House. Several structures, bridges and roads among them were built by Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression. Above Kings Gap is Dowdells Knob, Roosevelts favorite picnic spot that overlooks a magnificent view of the valley below. Bicyclists always enjoy the scenic roads in Georgias largest state park. Pine Mountain is on the southern-most edge of the Appalachian Mountain range and its highest elevation is 1,395 feet. (reference State

Established in 1981 by the local Columbus Cycling Club, the Pine Mountain Challenge participation numbers exceeded the ability of the club to manage the event with safety. Six years ago, the Pine Mountain Challenge was brought back by area volunteers to benefit Valley Healthcare System, Inc.( Over the last five years the ride has grown into a fantastic event for both the cyclists and volunteers. The Pine Mountain Challenge Century 2013 is an end of the season cycling party. The PMC draws cyclists from every state in the Southeast and every cycling level. Ride-day registration opens October 26th at 7 a.m. The Pine Mountain Challenge is best describe by the participants, here are a few of their comments:
