Being an actor in Chicago with a sustainable career means you will do a lot of theater work. Because the Chicago theater scene is so connected, your reputation for being difficult can spread quickly and keep you in that day job until you abandon your dreams of success. Some actors think that career sustainability has to do with ability, that is only minimally true. A successful theater career is a healthy mix of talent, luck and a set of behaviors that make actors desirable to directors. No one can endow you with talent or luck, however we can discuss how an actor can develop a reputation for being well-liked in any situation: auditions, rehearsal rooms and performance. In this workshop we will cover some basic rules of behavior followed by in-class examples of auditions and scene work, through which we can isolate individual traits of some workshop participants. Hopefully, at the end of the workshop, you will know how to make yourself more hire-able.
