Choreographer Peter Chu creates works which push the physical bounds of movement, and bring sharp and liquid-like energies into contrast; these qualities and sensibilities guide the body toward seamless yet powerful movement. Inspired by the dynamic nature of emotions, Chu’s works depict movements that expand, contract, isolate, and undulate. Partnering and an innate wisdom of the body and mind are also integral elements to his choreography. Chu begins this four-hour workshop with a guided class fusing personal discovery with technical understanding, and mind-body familiarity. At the same time, he asks students to focus on free-form movement and spatial composition. Movement phrases are researched, deconstructed, and reconstructed with a focus on bringing forth a broad range of textures and qualities. Participation in a chuthis. ideas class develops your mindful approach to movement, strengthens your emotional control, and increases your ability to be out of control, when that is what’s necessary. Space is limited to the first 30 dancers. Advance registration is required.
