Join Chess-Ed after-school for varying levels of chess instruction! Instructors will divide students into the appropriate levels, so no need to specify which level when signing up! Level 1, Beginner - Beginning students will learn the Basics and Beyond. This includes a basic understanding of the purpose and object of the game, the difference between check and checkmate, the board, the pieces and how they move, piece value, en passant, castling, and chess etiquette. Level 2, Continuing - Continuing students will be given an understanding of Tactics and Strategies: the use of pins, forks, skewers, discoveries, and new vocabulary. As continuing students advance, they will develop their opening theories, learn notation and game analysis, study master games, and learn and practice tournament style playing. Level 3, Advanced - Advanced students will be dealing with more in-depth instruction on all of the above, plus prepare their skills for competition and representing BZAEDS in local and state competitions. This section is truly geared for the serious chess student with a desire to learn advanced ideas.
