What's Included

This 16-hour hands-on, on-the-water course is designed for mariners who want to learn how to safely operate a powerboat larger than 30 feet and improve their boat handling skills. This course focuses on how to responsibly operate a powered cruising vessel during daylight hours within sight of land in light to moderate wind and sea conditions. On-the-Water Sessions (make sure these topics are different than the basic course listed above or like Advanced Docking) Advanced Docking Team coordinated leaving & returning to a slip Dense harbor maneuvers Open water boat control Visual Piloting Intermediate Anchoring Securing a large vessel Classroom Sessions Liveaboard marine systems Inboard engine checks Twin screw maneuvering concepts Emergency procedures Deck Safety COLREGS Prerequisites: Safe Powerboat Handling or other proven boating resume

About This Organizer

The Chicago Yacht Academy seeks to make boating better by developing classes to improve the skills of recreational and professional mariners.  CYA teaches new competencies through a combination of classroom education and on-the-water experiences.  This unique combination alongside individual instruction gives our graduates the skills needed to be confident on the water.
