The Chattanooga Bicycle Club will again host the 3 State 3 Mountain Challenge, presented by Village Volkswagon of Chattanooga.
We are pleased to announce George Hincapie is returning to the event this year. George, Rich and members of the Hincapie Development Team will be on hand at a reception on Friday night. They will again lead out the ride.
As many of you know, the event saw it’s first fatality last year. Antonio Ribeiro, of Jacksonville, died in a collision with a car as he descended Ochs Highway.
Antonio was an active member of the Velobrew Cycling Club based in Jacksonville. A competitive cyclist and father, Antonio loved supporting the young members of the Jr. Velocrew. Therefore, to honor Antonio and his commitment to the education and development of youth cycling, we have created an optional donation opportunity. All proceeds will go to support youth development cycling. We hope everyone registering will make a donation. We have invited members of the Velobrew Cycling Club and Jr. VeloCrew to participate this year. They will be present at the reception and take their place beside George and his team members to lead you out on your ride.
We will again have 2 registration categories this year. The Preferred Rider registration includes the ride, a full Hincapie event kit (includes your choice of jersey, bib shorts/regular shorts and arm warmers), event tee, and the private packet pickup and reception with the Hincapie crew in attendance. Limited to the first 225 people to register! It sold out last year. Preferred riders will be able to purchase one additional guest ticket for the reception.
Routes for 2014: We are offering 4 routes this year: the full 100 mile century challenge (3 mountain ascents, 3 states), an 85 mile route (2 mountain ascents, 3 states) a 62 mile metric (1 mountain ascent, 2 states) and a 31 mile route (rolling with no mountain ascents in 2 states).
Electronic timing - All riders on all routes will be chip timed this year. The antenna is in the bib, so there’s no need to arrive at dark:thirty to get your chip! You don’t have to return it either.
KOM bragging rights! All 100-mile Challenge riders will be timed on ALL 3 CLIMBS. Cumulative time on climbs will determine the winner. Super award for the KOM.
CONQUER THE GAP competition is open to Metric and 85-mile riders. Fastest climb up Burkhalter Gap determines the winner. Nice awards for your efforts.
Registration fee includes well-stocked rest stops, great on-the-road support, a post ride meal (until 5:00 PM). Showers will be available after the ride (until 5:00 PM).
Note: Registration for the 2014 3 State 3 Mountain Challenge will close at midnight on April 28, 2014. No refunds after February 28, 2014.
