An urban scavenger hunt by bike benefiting the REACT Thyroid Foundation, a 501(c)(3) public charity dedicated to finding a cure.
The REACT Thyroid Foundation was founded in August 2011 by a courageous young woman, Michelle LeBeau. In 2009, at the age of 30, Michelle was diagnosed with a rare and incurable form of thyroid cancer called medullary thyroid carcinoma. At the time of diagnosis the cancer had spread to her lungs and was classified as stage 4C. There is no known cure for medullary thyroid carcinoma, or any form of advanced stage thyroid cancer, and it is not responsive to traditional chemotherapy.

WHAT IS THE CHAR-HEEL CLASSIC?
The Char-Heel Classic is an urban scavenger hunt meets Amazing race with a splash of wild goose chase with a WHOLE BUNCH of fun! Teams must find all the clues, document them using the goosechase app and make it back to the finish line. Teams must use their brains, follow the rules and have fun along the way.
HOW MANY TO A TEAM?
Teams can range from 2-6 people. You have the ability to all sign up at once. If you don't know how many people will be on your team but want to sign up now, you can sign up individually. Just make sure you sign up for the same team name to insure you are all on the same team.
HOW FAR WILL WE TRAVEL?
This event should have you traveling around 12-25 miles. However, this if you answer the clues wrong and head to the wrong location, you could be riding more.
HOW LONG DOES THIS EVENT LAST?
Each team will have 4 hours to complete the mission. Each team will not need this long but it is possible. Typically, teams will take about 3 hours. Are you ready for the challenge?
HOW DOES THIS EVENT WORK?
Since this event is interactive, each team will receive a clue and have to find that location. Once the team finds the location and checks in using the GooseChase app, they will get their next clue and so on and so forth.
Along the way to each checkpoint, teams will receive an optional mini-mission. Each mini-mission is optional. If teams choose to perform the mini-mission, points will be added to their overall total. These tasks are designed to have fun with each other and give teams an advantage over teams that don't perform the mini-missions! Make sure you bring your creativity and your sense of humor on this mission!
WHAT IS THE GOOSECHASE APP?
Photo proof is required to receive points for a mission. Luckily, your smartphone apps make completing a mission incredibly easy.
Just select the mission you want to complete from the mission list, take a picture with the phone's camera and press the submit button. You'll receive the points right away, but remember that all photos are subject to review. This means that you can lose those points at any time if the photo isn't good enough.
The ability to see everything as it happens is one of the truly special parts of GooseChase. That's because whenever someone completes a mission, the photo is added to the activity feed and the rankings are automatically updated.
It's a huge improvement over the traditional scavenger hunt and drives much of the excitement we see. At any given moment, you know exactly how you are doing and what needs to happen to win.
When time runs out, the game may be over, but the fun is definitely not. That's because we still need to announce the final scores after they review the photos. It's why you should always push hard until the very end, because you don't know if the teams ahead of you will have taken any shortcuts!
As a final treat, we will put together a photo slideshow of the best photos. From our experience, this is often the best part and always results in non-stop laughter.

You will report into your mission, get briefed about your mission and get your gear.... then set out on your mission. Your briefing will contain the rules, objectives, and will answer all questions. After you’re briefed...IT’S GAME ON!
WHEN WILL WE GET LOCATION INFO:
Briefing location will be available at 9am at Birdsong Brewing Co.
We will be having the event no matter if it is rain or shine unless it is a hurricane or tornado. If thunderstorms start during the event, take cover until the storm passes.
WHAT TO BRING:
Bring your, bike, helmet, spare tube, smart phone, phone charger, paper and something to write with, water and appropriate clothing.... But most importantly...bring your sense of humor and creativity. This is a fun, silly event where you will get to laugh at yourself and your teammates. Leave your worries behind...there is no room for it at this event. There is too much fun happening on this day!
