Celebrate the New Year at the R.I.T.N.Y. (Run in the New Year) at the Cary Town Center. The race starts at the stroke of midnight. This year the race is also the final event n the 2012 Second Empire Fall Grand Prix.
Last year's results
A record field of 300 runners and walkers registered for this race last New Year’s Eve. But in 2010, the race was resurrected and over 100 runners and walkers showed up to celebrate its return. Ethan Medley was the first celebrant to finish completing the 5K course in 17:38. Kara Bonneau won the women’s title in 21:42. Mark Hallen holds the course record of 17:28 set in 2012. Cristina set the women’s course mark of 20:18 in 2011.
The entry fee for the 5K is $25 (increasing to $30 after December 20). For the mile, the fee is $15 with no late fee. T-shirts are guaranteed to all those registered by December 20th. Special needs children can participate for free.
In the 5K awards will be presented to the top three finishers in each of the following age divisions (both sexes): 12-under, 13-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79 and 80-over.
Miracle League of the Triangle
Proceeds from the race will benefit the Miracle League of the Triangle which provides opportunities to all children with special needs to play baseball regardless of their abilities. For more information on the Miracle League, go to www.miracleleagueofthetriangle.com.
