On the historic C&O Canal Towpath from Carderock to Chain Bridge & back
Flat shady tree-lined scenic river views - the marathon you always dreamed of!
We welcome 350 entrants
This event is a green race, recognizing our stewardship of our environment
This unique out-and-back course runs through one of the area's first environmentally-protected zones, dating back to the 1830's
Watch for deer and other wildlife at dawn
The C&O Canal for its entire 183-mile length is a swath of green amidst urban development all around
The race course is a narrow (12-foot) wide unpaved trail, entirely flat, past 150-year-old locks and gatehouses
We offer water and aid stations at the locks roughly every two miles
We share the course with other users and bicyclists, so stay to the right.
To emphasize our commitment to conservation All our printing is two-sided on recycled paper We offer on-line paperless entry You may bring your used (but not abused) running shoes to packet pick-up for recycling Our t-shirts are printed using a non-polluting fusion process, rather than traditional screen printing Post-race, we recycle all our race-day wastes
Assisted by partner charities and affiliated running clubs
