The Aspirus Keweenaw Great Deer Chase Mountain Bike Races -- 28 Mile and 15 Mile, point to point races showcase the Swedetown Recreation Area summer trail system. Proceeds support the continued creation and maintenance of mountain bike trails at Swedetown as well as a bike park near the Village of Calumet.
The 15- and 28-mile races start at 11 a.m. EST at the North end of 5th Street of Calumet. The Great Deer Chase racers lead out the Calumet Heritage parade.
The roll-out proceeds through downtown Calumet and onto two-track and then singletrack at Swedetown. The short course is 15 miles and will have one aid station, and the long course is 28 miles in length and will have two aid stations. Both courses are one lap only, point to point; the terrain is varied and over 50% singletrack.
The course terminates on Oak Street in downtown Calumet adjacent to the Heritage Days festivities.
15- and 28-mile Entry Fees
Through May 31, 2014 – $30
June 1- July 31 – $35
August 1-16 – $40
August 17 – $50
All youth 15 and under racing the 15- or 28-mile races – $20
Any youth entering the 15- or 28-mile races are not eligible to also enter the kids race (3-mile, 5-mile or untimed).
NOTE: If you wish to pay by credit card please use Active.com before entries close on August 14. To make it easier on our volunteers and the staff of Cross Country Sports, please plan on using cash or check if you register at bib pick up on the 15th and 16th.
For Geared Mountain Bikers
The 15 and 28 Mile courses are divided into age brackets by gender. The top three male and female finishers of both the 15 and 28 Mile courses will be awarded separately and pulled from the age/gender brackets. The top 3 finishers in each age & gender will be awarded. The age brackets for each race are:
15-mile race: First-, second- and third-place awards (both male and female): 12 & under, 13-15, 16-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50- 59, 60-69, 70+. The tandem division will have no gender or age division.
28-mile race: First-, second- and third-place awards (both male and female): 16 & under, 17-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+. The tandem division will have no gender or age division.
For Single Speeders
The long course features the official U.P. Single Speed Championship.To compete for this honor, you must compete in the long course and ride a single speed. To the top male and female winners go an award and bragging rights for an entire year! Second and third place male and female will receive other awards. There are no age divisions for this race – if Single Speed racers wish to compete in their age brackets do not enter as a Single Speed.
Racers can register to ride in the single speed category in the short race as well. The top 3 men and top 3 women finishers in the short course will be awarded prizes. There are no age divisions in the Single Speed Short Course category.
The Kids Race Course (Fawn Chase)
The kids races will start at 9:00 a.m. with registration Friday evening from 6:30-8 p.m. and Saturday morning between 7:30-8:30 a.m. Please note the 9:00 am start time!
There is a 3-mile race for those youth ages 10-and-under and a 5 -mile race for those 14-and-under. Most of this race is doubletrack and parents are encouraged to ride with younger racers. To include the youngest riders, the 40-yard untimed Fawn Chase will follow the start of the other kids’ races.
5-mile race: First-, second- and third-place medals (both male and female) will be awarded in the following age divisions:10 & under, 11-12, 13-14.
3-mile race: First-, second- and third-place medals (both male and female) will be awarded in the following age divisions: 6 & under, 7-8, 9-10.
Participant ribbons will be given to those in the 40-yard Fawn Chase (non-timed kid’s race) at the finish of their event.

Registration and bib pick-up will be open from 6:30 to 8:00 pm EST, Friday, August 15, 2013, and 9:00 – 10:00 am EST , Saturday, August 16, at Cross Country Sports, 507 Oak Street, Calumet. Kids race registration is from to 7:30 – 8:30 a.m. EST, August 16, 2013.
