What's Included

Instructor: Kate Phillips, http://kcphillips.weebly.com/ In this class, students will continue expanding their Machine Knitting skills and understanding on their own individual Brother 864 standard gauge knitting machine. This class covers more advance patterning techniques, such as the use of punch cards and tuck stitches, tension swatches, cables, weaving techniques and other hand-manipulated stitches. Students will gain a much deeper understanding of the capabilities of a knitting machine and will leave with a collection of swatches and a small project based on their vision. -- Our classes are designed to focus on a learned skill rather than a final product. At TAC, our mission is to provide skills and knowledge for a lifetime! All materials for sample making and learning the technique are included. Any additional materials will need to be supplied by the student based on their vision. Weekend Intensive students have access to Open Studio time for free for up to a week after the class, to put their new knowledge to practice.

About This Organizer

Textile Arts Center aspires to unify and empower the textile community, and advocate for the handmade.

Textile Arts Center (TAC) is a NYC-based resource facility dedicated to raising awareness and understanding of textiles through creative educational programs for children and adults. At TAC, we aspire to unify the textile community and advocate for the handmade by providing accessible, skills-based classes that reinvigorate engagement with traditional crafts. Techniques like weaving, sewing, and dyeing are practical, connective, and process-driven -- common denominators for designers, artists, and creative practitioners around the world. Because these activities are so widely used, they help to foster community and bring creativity back into our daily lives. They are part of our collective history and vital to our ongoing expressions of design, art, and culture.
