What's Included

Instructor: Katrin Reifeiss, www.katrinreifeiss.com Shibori is an ancient Japanese resist-dye technique that involves creasing, folding, stitching, binding and knotting the fabric previously to dyeing to create beautiful and well defined patterns. In this one-day session, students will learn the basics of shibori resist techniques, as well as how to dye their samples and use these techniques to dye their very own shibori beach blanket. Our classes are designed to focus on a learned skill rather than a final product. At TAC, our mission is to provide skills and knowledge for a lifetime! All materials for sample making and learning the technique are included. Any additional materials will need to be supplied by the student based on their vision. Open Studio time is not included with 1-day Intensives.

About This Organizer

Textile Arts Center aspires to unify and empower the textile community, and advocate for the handmade.

Textile Arts Center (TAC) is a NYC-based resource facility dedicated to raising awareness and understanding of textiles through creative educational programs for children and adults. At TAC, we aspire to unify the textile community and advocate for the handmade by providing accessible, skills-based classes that reinvigorate engagement with traditional crafts. Techniques like weaving, sewing, and dyeing are practical, connective, and process-driven -- common denominators for designers, artists, and creative practitioners around the world. Because these activities are so widely used, they help to foster community and bring creativity back into our daily lives. They are part of our collective history and vital to our ongoing expressions of design, art, and culture.
