What's Included

Kids of TAC After School Classes (ages 5-11) are offered in 8 week cycles, Monday-Thursday, 3-6PM, on a rotating basis in both Manhattan and Brooklyn. You can try one or all four! Space is limited. Each 8-week class is $450, including materials. If you register for more than one class at a time, each additional class is 10% off! Pick up is available at the following schools: Brooklyn - PS 321, PS 372, PS 58. Manhattan - PS 41, PS 3, Village Community School. WEAVING: There is nothing like weaving on a loom. Students delight in mastering this ancient machine to create their very own fabric. Simple enough for beginners, with endless room for exploration. PRINTING & DYEING: Transform a blank canvas into beautiful artwork soft to the touch. In this dynamic class, students use colorful synthetic and natural dye and printing processes, creating projects with fabric of their own design. FELTING & NEEDLE ARTS: Students explore soft sculpture, turning wool into bright and fun textile projects through wet and dry felting and needle arts. Whether it is decorative, functional, or a toy to play with, the sky is the limit. SEWING & FASHION: TAC kids are always fashion forward. Through a series of sewing and fashion projects, students learn to use the sewing machine and express their individuality through their handmade wearable art. Textile Arts Center (TAC) is a NYC-based resource facility dedicated to raising awareness and understanding of textiles through creative educational programs for children and adults. At TAC, we aspire to unify the textile community and advocate for the handmade by providing accessible, skills-based classes that reinvigorate engagement with traditional crafts. Techniques like weaving, sewing, and dyeing are practical, connective, and process-driven -- common denominators for designers, artists, and creative practitioners around the world. Because these activities are so widely used, they help to foster community and bring creativity back into our daily lives. They are part of our collective history and vital to our ongoing expressions of design, art, and culture.
