"With rank comes responsibility". - Sensei. At this level, students know that the rules are in place to protect them. Respect has taught them caution. They understand why they look their parents in the eye when communicating, as well as the consequence of not keeping their hands up. They are now ready to get stripes and different color belts; learning about setting goals and how to reach them is the first step.
What is expected:
Parents need to encourage their child to take responsibility for their actions. The child will should have the confidence to face another when battling. Knowing how to tie their dogi (uniform) and obi (belt), how to fold, to keep track of their equipment, etc. will go a long way in giving this confidence. Don't pressure them into practicing; if they want it they will get it! However, they may need a word of encouragement from time to time and a reminder about responsibility.
*This class will NOT meet on December 25, January 1 and February 19.*
