The back country packing camp experience encourages campers to develop a relationship with horses. The camp experience will increase camper’s confidence with horses. It will also increase the campers’ ability to competently navigate and ride in the backcountry. Emphasis is placed on participation- campers are expected to learn to pack gear and load horses and mules with gear. Our small camp size, excellent staff, programs and schooled horses all combine to provide an unparalleled camp and riding experience which is every young rider's dream. *Ages 15-17- camper must either attend an overnight camps session or be approved by Jake’s Horses to participate. Day 1: The first day of camp is spent on the ground. This session will begin with a review of basic horse knowledge and safety. Participants will learn to identify packing equipment, will learn basic packing rules, and will watch a demonstration of a mule being loaded. Participants will practice loading a mule, tying knots. After participants have successfully packed the mules, they will learn to tie them in a line and will practice leading. 1pm-6pm at Jake’s Horses Participants should bring gear, including sleeping supplies, on Day 1. Day 2: 10:00 am drop off at Lightening Creek Junction up Taylors Fork Road Camp out night 1 Day 3: Camp out night 2 Day 4: 4:00pm pick up at the Lightening Creek Junction up Taylors Fork Road Parents or guardians are responsible for providing transportation to and from trailhead location. Please make arrangements for dropping off and picking up prior to camp. Campers are expected to be picked up in a timely fashion. Overnight camp includes private camp location, tents, tack, horses, raingear, guides/cook and meals.
