What's Included

Etching 2: Photo Etching on Copper focuses on photographic etching processes with a copper plate. Students will learn preparation of the emulsion on the copper plate, creating the basic image by exposure with UV light, and development by acid in the manner of traditional copper intaglio. Unlike polymer intaglio, the artist can work a previously photo-etched copper plate further, using various etching techniques. Mandatory prerequisites required: Before enrolling for this course, students should have (1) working knowledge of basic etching/intaglio, and (2) positive transparency making skills. Sundays, May 21, 28 & June 4 from 10am-4pm $30 Materials Fee payable to the teacher on the first day of class Instructor bio: Kazuko Watanabe has worked in print media for over twenty years. She has researched and developed three-dimensional prints, print sculpture, the use of intaglio in artist's books and the combination of traditional print media with computer techniques. In 1999, she received the Library Fellows Award from the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C. In 2001, her work was selected for the "Print National" exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum of Art, New York. www.kazwat.com
