What's Included

In this immersive color workshop students will engage in color mixing and relativity exercises using gouache, a vibrant non-toxic opaque water-soluble paint. Drawing from the seminal books, Johannes Itten's, The Art of Color and Joseph Albers, The Interaction of Color, students will learn important color theory fundamentals while engaging in the visceral experience of mixing complex color combinations that can be used as a future reference for any future activity related to color. In addition to mixing exercises, participants will create a small series of abstract color paintings based on their own subjective inclinations and imagination. 4 Saturdays, Feb 4, 11, 18, 25 from 1-4pm $235 + $75 materials fee payable to the teacher on the first day of class Instructor bio: Lena Wolff is a San Francisco-Bay Area artist whose work extends out of American craft and folk art traditions, while at the same time being grounded in the modern and contemporary movements of minimalism, geometric abstraction, Op art and feminist practice. Wolff has exhibited at the Legion of Honor Museum, Headlands Center for the Arts, Southern Exposure, CULT / Aimee Frieberg Exhibitions, Traywick Contemporary, Dominican University, Adobe Books, Needles & Pens and New Image Arts, among other spaces. In addition to private collections, her work is in the collections of the One Archive, The San Francisco Arts Commission, The Alameda County Arts Commission, Facebook, The Cleveland Clinic, The University of Iowa Museum and The Zuckerman Museum of Art, among others. In 2018, Wolff will be an artist in residence at the De Young Museum. She lives with her wife Miriam Klein Stahl, artist and illustrator of the children’s book Rad American Women A-Z, and their daughter in Berkeley, California. http://lenawolff.com/
