Lifeguarding puts you in an exciting position working as part of a team to help people safely enjoy the water. It will help you develop skills and experience that will be valued by colleges and future employers. It's a great way to demonstrate what you can offer. Colleges and employers look for applicants who can deal effectively with people, who have a take charge attitude, and who are willing to work to develop new skills.
American Red Cross training makes learning fun and easy. Through classroom learning and hands-on practice, you'll learn: surveillance skills to help you recognize and prevent injuries, rescue skills - in the water and on land, first aid training and professional rescuer CPR - to help you prepare for any emergency, professional lifeguarding responsibiilties like interacting with the public and addressing uncooperative patrons, Automated External Defibrilator (AED), and Waterfront Lifeguarding.
CLASS PREREQUISITE: Participant must be able to swim 500 yards with front crawl, breaststroke and sidestroke, tread water for two minutes and surface dive. Successful completion of a skills test on the first night is required.
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will receive a Lifeguard Training and First Aid Certificate, valid for 3 years, and a CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certificate, valid for 2 years. The program fee includes all instruction and training materials (CPR mask & textbook), and the certification cards.
