    Additional Information

We are excited to announce our Fifth Annual Hoops for Hope Women’s Basketball Tournament. This event will take place on Sunday, March 14, 2010 at the McCann Recreation Center at Marist College in Poughkeepsie.

Each year we dedicate our efforts to honor an individual who exemplifies the spirit of our event. This year, we will play in memory of Mary Clay, who lost her battle with breast cancer in November, 2008. Mary's work as the New York University Athletics Department Business Manager coincided directly with the great surge of women’s sports at NYU, including women’s basketball, and across the country. She worked at the university from 1980 to 2006, when she took a leave of absence to focus on her family and her health. Mary was sweet, smart and tough, and was described by many as a pleasure to work with. Her bright smile and care left a lasting mark on the New York University community and the students she served. Mary was a long term resident of Pleasantville, Westchester County who was active in her community as well.

The Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation is a 501(c)3 not for profit organization founded in March of 2003. Since its inception, the Foundation has raised over $1 million for women and families affected by breast cancer living in the eight counties of the Hudson Valley. Some examples of programs the foundation has supported include: scholarships for college bound students whose lives have been affected by breast cancer, “Healing Vibrations” a chamber music group that plays classical music while people are being treated for cancer, financing of “La Boutique” an outlet that supplies wigs, prosthetics and lymphedema products for women being treated for breast cancer, and a medical gap care program that funds money to individuals experiencing a life crisis while being treated for breast cancer. Funding includes payments for car, rent, medical co-pays, health insurance and many more.
