Your First Option as a Ball Handler

Because the quickest way to attack the basket is with a pass rather than a dribble, your first option should always be to look to advance the ball with a pass, particularly in full-court play.

That means you should dribble only after checking off passing options. Over the years, I have seen players at all levels of play who immediately put the ball to the floor when they receive it. They never look to pass upcourt, although teammates may be wide open and in position to score easy baskets.
