The best of the West are heading to San Diego for the 21st annual Holiday Classic boys basketball tournament.
The tournament tips off on December 27 at five high schools in San Diego County. The 79 participating teams will be in five divisions, with the championship game in all divisions on December 30. Torrey Pines High School is the host school and the headquarters of the tournament, with four other schools in San Diego and Carlsbad also playing host to games.
Members of the iHoops staff will be in attendance.
The 79 teams are mostly from the western half of the United States--California, Washington, Arizona, Alaska, Hawaii and Nevada. However, a few teams are making longer trips, including Coolidge High School (Washington, D.C.), Ridgeland High (Madison, Miss.) and Yale Secondary (Ahlatsford, British Columbia).
Some of the top teams in the field are all playing in the National Division at Torrey Pines, including Long Beach (Calif.) Poly, Bishop O'Dowd (Oakland, Calif.), Lincoln Prep (San Diego) and St. Patrick-St. Vincent (Vallejo, Calif.).
Several members of the iHoops First Team program will be playing in the tournament, including Dominique Dunning of Centennial (Corona, Calif.). Other First Teamers playing are Richard Longrus, Brea Olinda, Michael Thompson and Alesandro Alberto.
