The third and final regular season session of the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League took place over Memorial Day Weekend in Los Angeles.
Up for grabs for all 42 participating teams were 24 invitations to the EYBL finals, which will take place during the Nike Peach Jam in North Augusta, S.C., from July 12-15.
The EYBL already had two other regular season sessions in Hampton, Va., and Houston, which helped shape the standings and give an idea of who would have a shot at the final tournament. But the Los Angeles session set everything in stone.
So who played their way into the Peach Jam? A couple of teams stood out:
- The Georgia Stars in Division D entered the Los Angeles session with a so-so 5-4 record. But they went 5-0 in L.A. and are now sitting pretty with a 10-4 final record.
- Similarly, Boo Williams in Division C went 5-0 in Los Angeles. Though they were already in good shape with a 7-2 mark heading in, they finished 12-2 and have their invitation in hand.
- The New Jersey Playaz lost their first game in Los Angeles, but it doesn’t matter. They ended up with the best record among all EYBL teams with a 13-1 mark.
- Three other teams—the St. Louis Eagles, Boo Williams and Howard Pulley—went 12-2 though none were unbeaten in Los Angeles.
In all, a 7-7 mark seems to be the cut for the Peach Jam, as 24 teams finished .500 or better. The final list of teams and the schedule of games in North Augusta, S.C. will be released soon.
