Arlington Little League divisions

Challenger

Arlington Little League runs a strong program for boys and girls with mental and physical challenges. Players are paired with players from ALL Majors divisions for weekly games. Each May, Challenger teams travel to a Virginia Beach tournament to play Challenger teams from around the world.

Ages 5-22

Tee Ball

Players use a batting tee to put the ball in play and learn the basic principles of hitting, running and fielding. Every player bats and plays the field every inning. No scores are kept, though some rules may be enforced (such as forces outs at first base), though these rules may be adapted by coaches to best assist the progress of their players. A soft safety ball is used. Players are placed on teams with other players from their school and neighborhood.

Ages 5-6.

Rookies

A natural extension of the Tee Ball program with the Tee removed and coaches pitching to batters. Position play is more emphasized, with position of catcher introduced. More rules are enforced, yet no score is kept. Soft safety ball is used. Players are placed on teams with other players from their school and neighborhood.

Ages 6*-7 (*6-year-olds must have played T-Ball to play at this level)

Minors

The season begins with coaches pitching, but graduates to players throwing to each other in midseason. Pitching is the main focus at this level, while position play and situational baseball are also stressed. No score is kept until a round robin tournament ends the season. Players are placed on teams with other players from their school and neighborhood.

Ages 8-9

Majors II

This is a developmental and competitive program. Coaches draft teams striving for fair distribution of player talent, while also attempting to provide players with a diverse mix of friends from school, and new friends from around the county. Scores and standings are kept. All teams compete in single-elimination playoff tournament to end the season.

Ages 9-11

Majors I

The highest level of skills in the league are found in this division. Teams are formed through an open draft process to ensure competitive parity. All teams compete in a playoff tournament to end the season.

Ages 10-12
