The Elite Course starts at Pioneer Park, La Grande, OR. The Elite Course adds an additional 12 legs, making it the longest relay in the Americas. The course will follow the Medical Springs Highway through local communities, such as Cove, Union, Medical Springs, and Pondosa. Then connects to the traditional 36-leg relay at the National Historic Oregon Trail Interpretive Center, then continues on the Hells Canyon Scenic Byway, finishing in La Grande, OR.
Smith Rock Race Group, LLC, creators of the Cascade Lakes Relay invite you to gather up to 11 other friends, 2 vans, 2 volunteers and get ready for your next scenic & challenging adventure! The Hells Canyon Relay runs through the day and night as teams complete 24 or 36 continuous legs of varying lengths in some of the most breathtakingly beautiful and hospitably-rich towns North Eastern Oregon has to offer!
We start with the Historic Oregon Trail, follow along the Powder River, through the historic towns of Richland and Halfway, conquer the world renowned Hells Canyon Recreational Area, enjoy stunning views of the Eagle Cap Wilderness, be welcomed by Joseph & Enterprise communities, take in the sights and sounds of the Wallowa & Minam Rivers as we finish in the fertile lands of La Grande. Then, at the end of your journey, soak in the 98 degree warming pool with your fellow mates as you kick back and enjoy your reward party!

Start and Finish line will be in La Grande, OR at Pioneer Park. This elite course will feature an additional 12 legs (A – L) on multi-surface rural roads where you will connect to Highway 86 at the NHOTIC. Runners will then continue through legs 1 -36 of the traditional relay course. The total number of legs will be 48 and the distance will be approximately 287 miles.
