Additional Information

10K & 5K runs $20.00
2-mile walk $20.00
Kids' Dash events $15.00

Kids' Dash events are for kids 0-10 years old. Kids can crawl, walk, skip, run, be carried, or pushed in jog strollers to complete the 1/8K (for 0-5 year-olds) or 1/4K (for 6-10 year olds) dash. Each finisher gets a running medal.

Kids' Dash events are held simultaneously and it's really the cutest thing you've ever seen! There are a hundred or so little ones just barreling down the beach toward the finish line.

Immediately following the Kids' Dash, parents who want to participate in the 10K, 5K or 2-mile can check their children into the Kids' Tent via a secure ID bracelet system where they will be supervised by several adult Kiwanis Club members and high school and middle school cheerleaders. Also in thetent: Cake! Each year we have a sheet cake that looks just like our event poster and the kids get to eat cake early in the morning. We also feature a professional sand sculptor who works with the kids building sandcastles and teaching the older kids techniques. The tent also has as many beach toys as Tonya & I can dig up for that day, so the kids have tons of fun while parents run/walk.

During the 10K, 5K, and 2-mile, participants are treated to live music along the course (two bands usually and one of them moves to the finish line to entertain while the last runners come in). These courses are out and back.

All races are run on the beach, starting at the Horace Caldwell Pier and running south toward Corpus Christi and back. We have had all different kinds of weather over the three years we've run the race - but runners are runners and they've never seemed to be deterred!

This year we will feature a chip timing system so that the results will be accurate and super-fast.

Overall, the Beach Dash is great fun! The proceeds from the event go to the Kiwanis Club of Port Aransas which supports many youth programs in Port A including Latch Key, Island Robotics BETS (Bettering Engineering, Technology & Science), Key Club, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, our local ballet/tap/hip hop company, and more. The majority of our money goes to graduating Port Aransas High School seniors in the form of scholarships. Last year, we awarded over $20,000 in scholarships to a class of 38. We are able to give a scholarship to each student attending any type of higher education whether it's a university, community college, or technical school. In many cases, we are the only organization awarding scholarships to some of these kids and I believe it sends a message to them that their community is behind them and believes in them.

Our results are posted in our local South Jetty Newspaper and on the Corpus Christi Road Runners website.
