How I got started in sports: I completed an Outward Bound course while in college, and it instilled in me a love of the outdoors. After college I became a wilderness instructor, teaching teens mountain biking, rock climbing and backpacking. At the same time, I began competing in duathlons, and eventually triathlons and adventure races.
Favorite spot to be active: Sweetwater Creek State Park in Douglasville, Ga.
Life/sport philosophy: Its about the journey and knowing Ill learn something new about myself in pursuit of each goal.
Athletic highlights: Finishing the 2004 Ironman Wisconsin injury-free in less than 14 hours. Finishing the 20-hour Raging Russell Adventure Race in northern Georgia.
Athletic goals: To improve my bike splits and master whitewater kayaking.
Favorite fuel: A toasted bagel topped with peanut butter, banana slices and honey.
Favorite indulgence: Carrot cake with cream cheese frosting.
When I'm not running or cycling, I'm: Playing guitar and writing songs or goofing off with my two dogs, Calixta and Fiver.
Other interesting facts: I've been a vegetarian for 15 years.
