Neuroscience is the scientific study of the nervous system. It includes the study of neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, and sub-topics such as intelligence, emotions, memory, sleep, and many more. Neuroscience is considered the last frontier of science, because, even though the field has made an enourmous progress over the past decades, the unknown still greatly outweighs the known. This course will consist of 10 2h sessions (w/ a break in the middle). The students will be advised to watch a short video and complete the assigned reading prior to class. Every session will incorporate an activity deasigned to help the students understand and apply the learned material. This course aims not only to familiarize the students with the exciting field of neuroscience, but also to prepare them for the annual UAA Brain Bee, which will take place at the Anchorage Museum at Rasmuson Center on 11 Feb 2017. The winner will have the honour of representing Alaska at the National Brain Bee in March.
