SHOW DATE: SUNDAY, MARCH 5. This is an advanced combination class with a dual focus on 1) learning the elements needed for a performance improv ensemble and 2) an introduction of the fundamentals of sketch writing. This class will allow the improv student to continue to explore different improv styles and techniques as well as learn how to create and find material for sketches. Constructive and supportive instruction will give attention to individual tendencies of each performer, group tendencies and scene work. In class exercises will focus on how to use improvised scenes to brainstorm and generate ideas for writing. Whether you are a seasoned writer or someone who rarely picks up a pencil, this class will teach you how to get ideas onto paper. Building off the knowledge of the core concepts of improvisation the student will learn to unlock their creativity, discover new approaches, overcome obstacles and affect an audience. Includes one to two performances. INSTRUCTOR KEELY KIRK began her improv career with Mental Floss, a Miami-based improv/sketch troupe. She went on to be a principle performer for over ten years with Laughing Gas Comedy Improv – Miami’s longest- running improv theater company. Keely relocated to the epicenter for improv, Chicago, and trained with iO (formerly Improv Olympics) and Second City. Currently Keely teaches, develops and delivers fun, fast-paced, interactive training and unforgettable events using theater improvisation techniques. Through her company, Playing OUTSIDE the Lines LLC, she has provided team building workshops for businesses, law firms, accounting firms, schools, as well as numerous Fortune 500 companies. She consults with businesses and training facilities in the Washington D.C. and Northern Virginia area. In addition to teaching, Keely also performs with various improv groups around the country.
