Dance is one of the 3 skills required to be a triple threat in today’s entertainment world. Explore 3 different dance styles: jazz, modern and hip-hop during this one-week workshop. Students will develop technical skills, experiment with personal style, learn choreography, and add character and performance quality to their dancing. Come on! Let’s get MOVING! (Some dance experience preferred). Instructor: Philip Lee Clark (B.A. in Theatre Design from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas; M.Ed in Theatre Education from SUNY-Buffalo) has been teaching Theatre Arts in FCPS for the past 6 years. Before arriving at West Potomac in 2011, Clark was the theatre director at Holmes Middle School in Alexandria, VA and choreographed for several county high schools. Prior to working for FCPS, Clark worked as a professional actor/singer/dancer/choreographer in the US, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Japan and Canada and is a proud member of Actor’s Equity. He has appeared in numerous productions including: Starlight Express (with director Trevor Nunn and Arlene Philips), Starlight Express the 3rd Dimension US National Tour, the original German cast of Grease (Roger), Storm—the world premiere (w/ director Jamie King), Evita (BA Dancer), Phantom of the Opera (Ensemble), Hair (Woof), Little Shop of Horrors (Seymor) and Anything Goes (w/Debbie Shapiro), just to name a few. Fun fact: Clark has appeared in over 2,000 performances of Starlight Express in Germany.
Since moving to the Washington area, Clark has been performing with Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington DC and singing with their top a cappella group, Potomac Fever. The group performed for Vice President Biden’s Christmas party as well as President Obama’s 2012 Pride Event at the White House. Favorite performances with the chorus include, Grease (Frenchy), Best Little Whorehouse of Texas (Durla), Snow White and 250 Fairies (Nasty Dwarf) and of course The Rocky Horror Show.
