Lauren (Smith) Beam was a graduate of West Albany High School who went on to earn two degrees, swim for, and later coach at New York University in New York City. At the age of 34, she passed away from colon cancer. Her illness was a shock to everyone who knew her. Lauren battled her cancer with fire and grace, inspiring everyone around her to be better people. After Lauren passed away in September 2011, Lauren’s fan club of supporters (Team Beam), spontaneously organized an informal run in Central Park as a way to keep her remarkable spirit and determination alive. This run was born from that day. It represents something Lauren loved to do – run – as well as something that helps elevate the human spirit and celebrates life.
The 2015 Lauren Beam Foundation Oregon River Run is our second race held in Oregon. This year, it is being held in conjunction with West Albany High School’s 20 year class reunion weekend. We are excited to build this tradition of celebrating Lauren's life and raising money for young men and women battling cancer. Our Foundation has helped several Oregonians by easing the financial burden caused by their disease. Please join us for a morning of good health, fun, and philanthropy.
