Description
About the Event: This race commemorates the completion of the Towpath Trail from border-to-border in Summit County! The 5K is part of the Summit Towpath 2012 Celebration and several other activities and events are taking place along the Towpath Trail this same day. Each registrant in the 5K and Fun Run will receive a free ticket to a concert taking place at Lock 3 at 6:00 p.m. on July 7th. Make this a whole day full of fun for the family celebrating the Towpath Trail in Summit County!
Event Description: This event is part of the 2012 Subway Challenge Series and the race will take place on newly completed sections of the Towpath Trail in Downtown Akron. *In honor of Independence Day, the first 50 veterans to register will receive complimentary registration!
Registration: Registration is by mail or online at www.active.com, www.rsracingsystems.com, or www.ohioeriecanal.org. For mail-in registrations, make checks payable to The Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition (OECC) and send to 47 W. Exchange Street, Akron, Ohio 44308.
Pre-registration by Thursday July 5th at 11:59 p.m. is $20 and race day registration is $25. Race day registration and packet pickup will begin at 7:00 a.m. race day morning. Gender-specific technical shirts for all preregistrants.
Location: The race will begin and end inside Lock 3 Park at 200 South Main St. Race starts at 9:00 a.m.
Awards/Giveaways: All pre-registered runners will receive a Tech T-shirt. Limited amounts will be available race-day.
Awards will be given to the top 3 male and female runners. Top 3 in each of the following age groups will receive awards: 14 & under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, and 70 & older.
Participants can also enjoy post-race food and drink.
Timing: All runners will be timed with computer chips attached to their bib. Results will be available race day at www.ohiochallengeseries.com
Fun Run: There will be a 1-mile Fun Run for kids at 8:30 a.m. The cost is $10 and each child will receive a free T-shirt. For more information and registration forms, visit www.ohioeriecanal.org. 5K registrants run free.
